Investment description

The investors, on the one hand, evaluating the development potential of the island of Samothrace in the tourism sector and, on the other hand, realising the large gap in marine tourism on the island and in particular the total lack of tour boats in the island, aim to cover the increased needs of the tourism market in high quality leisure infrastructure.

Marine tourism with crewed touring yachts that can be hired by tourists on the island is an alternative tourism development solution, which is aimed at tourists of higher income levels and can also operate effectively in off-peak periods with special tourist services. This makes it an ideal form of alternative tourism for the island of Samothrace.

Thus, the investors decided to provide services of renting a touring boat, including the captain and provide a variety of services related to marine tourism.

For the proper operation of the investment there is a need for expenditure related to the purchase of a fully equipped touring boat, the complete equipping of the headquarters and the implementation of a sophisticated and targeted promotion plan for the enterprise. Furthermore, the investors, due to their environmental sensitivity, have set high objectives and standards for the environmental friendliness of the business to be set up. Due to this, it has been decided to install a system and to certify the operation of the company according to ISO 14000. Finally, there is the need for proper planning and later effective management of the business plan.

The interventions to be financed include:

– the purchase of a pleasure cruising boat

– The purchase of electronic equipment for the management of the business

– the implementation of a business promotion plan

– The installation of a system and the certification of the business operation according to ISO 14000

– Consultancy costs for the submission and management of the business plan

Objectives of the investment

The aim is that the business will be fully productive after the investment is completed, as it will have a pleasure cruising boat which it will rent with its captain. The services offered by the boat will be:

– tours and guided visits around the island of Samothrace without overnight stay

– tours and excursions around the island of Samothrace with overnight stay

– water sports and/or fishing trips to well-known fishing grounds in the wider Samothrace area (Ladoxera)

– on-board menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

– drinks, refreshments and snacks

Investment Results

The immediate result of the investment project will be the creation of a new innovative tourism business that will offer tourist yacht rental services for tours, excursions and sports around the island of Samothrace.

The investment project will also contribute to the local development of the island and therefore increase the added value in the region as well:

– It upgrades and diversifies the tourism product of the island by adding new activities of alternative marine tourism which Samothrace needs so much.

– It increases the tourist flow on the island by attracting more and higher income tourists, which will increase the revenues not only of the company itself but also of the other businesses on the island

– It extends the tourist season on the island, as boat tourism is offered from May to October.

The operation entitled “CREATION OF A HORIZONTAL TOUR OPERATION BUSINESS IN SAMOTHRAKI”, PASKE code LA421-0468874 and MIS code 5198149 is financed under Measure 8.3.3: Article 63 of Reg. 508/2014 “Implementation of Local Development Strategies”, of the EU Priority 4 – “Increasing Employment and Territorial Cohesion” of the Operational Programme Fisheries and Maritime Affairs 2014-2020.
